Communication in the Wild

Comm_Wild takes an anti-anti-intellectual approach to issues of communication in the age of communication excess, information overload, data deluge, and media hyperactivity. The "wild" of Communication in the Wild is meant to suggest not uncivilized or 'in nature' but rather caught up in the everyday or basically implicated in practice. The forum targets technology, interpersonal talk, institutional double-speak, organizational structure, political activity, pop culture, and media production as key sites of comm_wild interplay.

Communication in the Wild is itself a running conversation which sometimes materializes as a production fiesta. This fiesta--often referred to as a "showcase"--embodies the idea that communication is performance, and performance a form of community involvement and interaction. Moreover, if all action is interaction (the comm_wild credo), then conversely all interaction is action grounded in moments of applied, or deployed, communication. Teasing out the theoretical and practical meanings of statements like this is one of the key goals for the comm_wild planning committee.

The questions raised here are together the performative platform on which the "wilds" of human interaction play out. We are all implicated in acts of communication. We are all in the wild and performing our wildness.
